Yajna Narayana Kammaje -Chairman & Managing Director
Yajna Narayana Kammaje established the privately held Sona Group of Industries in 1987, by setting up Sona Plating at the very start of his entrepreneurial journey. Driven by his infectious zeal to succeed, over the past two decades, Sona Group has truly diversified and grown consistently as a leading contract manufacturer of watches and watch components for leading national and internationally renowned brands like Titan, Fossil, Citizen, Timex, Maxima to name a few. Apart from being associated with over 300 national brands as a provider of brand promotional watches, today Sona Group has expanded its presence in Real Estate as well.
Born in 1949, Mr. Kammaje holds a postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineer from NIT Surathkal. Starting his career as a Trainee Engineer with DICC he soon rose to the position of Assistant Director. After serving the HMT Watch Division for close to 2 decades, he voluntarily resigned as Deputy General Manager, to pursue his dream as an entrepreneur. This led to the foundation of Sona Group.
With his intense zeal and highly focused approach, Mr. Kammaje by now a veteran in the watch industry, began by setting up Sona Plating n 1987 in Bengaluru, which heralded Sona Group’s growth as a leading contract manufacturer for many watch companies across South Asia.
As the Chairman & CEO, Mr. Kammaje along his entrepreneurial venture has promoted and established various companies under the Sona Group umbrella. Sona Horologicals, Sona Leathers, Sona Band, Kammaje Industries, and UniSoft India have had him play a crucial role in their growth history from the conceptual stage. Today, these businesses are well established and integrated in their respective fields.
Mr. Kammaje is an active philanthropist. Since its inception, Sona Group has fulfilled its social responsibilities contributing to the welfare of its employees, their families and other social needs. In 1989, Mr. Kammaje set up the first Only Women Entrepreneur SSI unit at Sona Group’s Attibele outfit. Resulting in providing employment to over 100 women workers settled in an industrially backward belt.
In his personal capacity as well, he supports higher education of deprived students through many scholarships.
Mr. Kammaje is also the President, Alumni Association of NITK Surathkal, and Bangalore Chapter. As part of this he has taken extensive measures in mobilizing the fraternity to offer educational scholarships. He is associated with Laghu Udyog Bharathi, as Vice President of MSME entrepreneur’s wing. He is also a member of Vision Karnataka, a high power committee involved in preparing blueprints for SEZ.
